‘The Mind Of’ Pt. 2

I've known I'm a sucker for a bargain for a long time; but I've now realised the extent of the problem. I'll actually convince myself I love something because it's "cheap", not because I like the look. ”

I'd like to thank Maison Margiela.

Today, I found the bargain of the year, some Maison Margiela Fusion Sneakers at almost 60% off. Originally £1125, they were now £475 and an absolute bargain. Just one problem, they're horrible. I mean, actual glue spilled all over them as a design element horrible. Google them, they're grim.

It's been a running joke between me and certain friends for a while now that I'm a blind consumer, but it's only now that I can actually see it. Now, you'd probably laugh if you saw my wardrobe right now, theres some wacky and expensive stuff in there (more on that next time), but I'd always justified it by saying I actually like them. Could I have been lying to myself this whole time?!

This is when I realised I have a problem. Okay, I've known I'm a sucker for a bargain for a long time; but I've now realised the extent of the problem. I'll actually convince myself I love something because it's "cheap", not because I like the look.

Anyway, on to the offending sneaker. First of all, they're HUGE. I don’t mean just Balenciaga Triple S huge, they're even bigger. Fair enough they don’t weigh anywhere near as much (wearing those is like the worst kind of leg day), but they're much bulkier. On my skinny legs that's never a good look.

Also, they're SILVER. There's thick GLUE thrown on them and actual TAPE along the back. Wearing them made me feel like some sort of tragic space man. Not only that, but it made me realise without any doubt that I have a bit of a problem when it comes to brands.

Now anybody who knows me (especially Andy) will tell you that my taste is questionable at times, but this was a step too far even for me. I really need to reevaluate my life. So thank you Margiela, for finally giving me the wake-up call I so clearly needed.
