Agencies VS Agents

“An agent works for a talent. Unless models have a ‘non exclusive contract’, this means the model is on an exclusive basis with their agent and the model can’t be signed to any other agent or agency.”

Agent

An agent works for a talent. Unless models have a ‘non exclusive contract’, this means the model is on an exclusive basis with their agent and the model can’t be signed to any other agent or agency.

If you decide to take work or sign up with another agent or agency, your agent is entitled to a percentage of payment from a job, even when if they didn’t book you on it. Agents can take up to 30% off your overall pay for every job.

Always read contracts before signing.

Agencies

Agencies are franchised by the union. That gives them the legal right to solicit employment for their clients. It also allows them to negotiate contracts on their client’s behalf.

Agencies can take between 10% - 20% off your overall pay for each job.

Some agencies are exclusive but not all of them. Always ask before going ahead with a contract.

Casting

If an agent or agency put you forward for a casting, this doesn’t mean you have the job. Castings are often unpaid and must be attended if you agree to go.

Fittings

If an agent or agency sends you for a fitting, they will pay on average £30 to £50 put beware, they will take a percentage fee.

Please note an agent or agency will not be responsible for tax. Any work done has to be put through as part of a self assessment so bear this in mind when considering the fee of any work.
