Behind The Lens: 2
“So we all have a different body shapes and even though models are supposed to have the standard athletic figure, they are not all exactly the same – they are also human like the rest of us!”
Right my fellow followers, from my previous post, I based my blog with an insight on styling a photoshoot and left with the question, what if the clothing does not actually fit the model?
As you all know, if you are some serious shoppers like myself, size 8 or 10 or 12 of one brand doesn’t fit the same way as another brand - as for myself I would rather go clothes shopping on the store and determine which sizes are right for myself, rather than spending time in choosing them online and ending up returning them all because they don’t fit! So, exactly the same happens when you are working for a brand on a photoshoot; even if the model is size 8/10 as standard and so are the clothes, that does not mean they fit them perfectly … in saying so we all have a different body shapes and even though models are supposed to have the standard athletic figure, they are not all exactly the same – they are also human like the rest of us!
And here then comes the twisting on the back, the clips on the side, the hand sewing on the back to make sure it is all kept in place and this to then be undone and redone at the front when the back is being shot … ahah … oh the joys there, but I am telling you, when I see the final result, it then makes it all worth it and I am proud to say: ‘I did that and I made that piece of clothing looks exceptional’. Occasionally you may also need some body tape too, especially on the décolleté, to maintain the shape of the clothing as it is supposed to be looking.
Now you may think this is misleading but trust me it is absolutely not because that piece of clothing will fit a standard size 8, 10 and so on, but models generally are tall and very slim and the majority of retailers out there, focus on the standard body shape which is where they make most of the sales and at the end of the day it is all about selling! I have tried on the clothing myself on several occasion just to prove a point that I was not lying and they perfectly fit me … what I am trying to say is, the adjusting is only going to make the piece of clothing look like it would look on a standard size; whether that is suitable or not to your body shape is a different argument which I will cover on another blog. Right, what do you say now? Are we intrigued enough to learn about editorial photoshoot?
